charcoal-burgundy-mix-greystoke-triple-hammered-crystal-prong-belt
Charcoal/Burgundy Mix Greystoke Triple Hammered Crystal Prong Belt

If your idea of a belt is something you put on purely to keep your trousers up, look away now. This one is for people who like their accessories with a bit of attitude. It’s called the Greystoke Triple, after Lord Greystoke, the gentleman the rest of us know as Tarzan, and frankly, any belt that mixes croc-effect leather with pony hair has earned a jungle-inspired name.

The strap is a patchwork of three textures that flow into each other along its length. Glossy mock caiman croc in deep burgundy sits alongside a darker croc-effect panel in charcoal, and between them runs soft, tactile pony hair (hair-on cowhide) in a smoky charcoal grey. Bold S-shaped cross stitching in burgundy-red traces every join, pulling the whole design together and giving it a lovely sense of movement. Shine against matt, scale against soft, warm against cool: there’s always something new to catch the eye.

For the buckle, I wanted something that matched the strap’s appetite for texture. It’s a gunmetal frame with a hand-hammered surface, its edges slightly irregular and rippled so the light breaks across it in a hundred little ways. Running along one side and the base is a line of tiny Swarovski crystals in burgundy and soft champagne, interspersed with small metal beads, finishing in a larger teardrop Swarovski crystal in the corner. The crystals give an edgy belt a little lift, a flash of something unexpected, while the gunmetal keeps everything tone on tone with the charcoal panels. It feels a little bit rock and roll and a little bit jewellery at the same time, which is exactly the point.

Burgundy and charcoal together is a richer, more interesting choice than your usual black or brown, and far easier to wear than you’d expect. The charcoal keeps it grounded; the burgundy brings the warmth. I’d wear it with black jeans, a charcoal roll-neck and a leather jacket for an evening out, or with dark indigo denim and a crisp white shirt when I want to look like I’ve made an effort without saying so. It works well for both men and women. On her, it’s brilliant slung through skinny black jeans with an oversized knit and ankle boots, or worn over a simple black dress to give it some edge. Keep the rest of the outfit quiet and let the belt do the talking. It’s very good at it.

Not only is the upper leather full grain quality, the lining is too. And like every belt we make, it’s handcrafted in our small Spanish atelier, where a small team joins each panel and lays every line of stitching by hand, taking the time needed to get it right rather than rushing it.
