As the light moves across the strap, the scales shift from deep charcoal through to soft pewter, with the faintest hint of violet catching in the grooves. The raised scales and the deeper channels between them pick up the shimmer differently, so the whole strap has a liquid, almost molten quality. It’s dramatic without being flashy, and it’s a brilliant way to lift an outfit built on grey and black, adding depth and a little glint of light where you’d least expect it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe buckle is where the attitude really comes in. It’s a softly rounded frame in aged silver, with a row of conical studs running along each arm. It’s a little bit punk rock, a little bit Kings Road circa 1977, and completely unapologetic about it. The worn, aged finish keeps it from looking too polished, and it sits perfectly against the cool gunmetal of the strap.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGunmetal is a far more exciting choice than plain black, and I’d encourage you to give it a go. It works with everything black works with, but it brings shine, texture and personality. It works well for both men and women. For a casual look, I’d wear it with black jeans, a grey marl tee and a leather jacket, or with charcoal trousers and a fine black knit. The narrow width also means it slips easily through the loops of tailored trousers, so try it with a dark suit and a black shirt for an evening out with a subversive edge. On her, it’s fantastic with a slip dress and boots, cinching an oversized grey blazer, or worn with black skinny jeans and a silk camisole. Wear it to a smart dinner and watch who notices.
