The buckle I have used for this belt has been with us since the very beginning, back in 2004, and it’s still one of the pieces people stop and pick up in the shop. Every so often I give it a fresh twist, and this time it has met its match: a strap with just as much personality as it has. Together, they combine to make a belt with real weight and a fair bit of attitude.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe leather is our Teyus, a full grain leather pressed with a fine lizard texture and finished with a metallic sheen, here in a rich plum. It’s a bolder colour, but it’s grounded by deep plum and burgundy tones that run through the strap, lifting into lighter, almost rosy flashes where the metallic sheen catches the paler areas. Fastening it is that old favourite: a chunky rectangular plaque studded all over with raised silver nuggets, set in a vibrant pinky plum cold enamel that glows between them. The polished silver catches the light while the enamel picks up the brighter notes in the leather, lifting the whole belt and giving it a jewel-like richness. Substantial in the hand and impossible to ignore, it’s a true statement piece.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlum is a wonderfully rewarding colour and a far more interesting choice than black or brown. It looks superb with charcoal, grey, navy and black, and it’s lovely against cream and soft pink. It works well for both men and women. I’d wear it with black jeans, a charcoal knit and a leather jacket, or with a grey suit trouser and a crisp white shirt for an evening out with a bit of swagger. On her, it’s brilliant at the waist of a black dress or a grey knit dress, or slung through dark denim with a silk blouse. Wear it with confidence. It wouldn’t have it any other way.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNot only is the upper leather full grain quality, the lining is too.
