Some designs become classics because they get something fundamentally right. The Coltrane — first conceived in 2007 and still as compelling as ever — is one of those. The inspiration was the wingtip shoe: that elegant tradition of combining smooth and textured leather within a single object to create something with far more depth and character than either could achieve alone. We simply applied the same logic to a belt, and something clicked.This new Latte colourway is warm, deeply wearable, and hand burnished to reveal the full tonal range within the leather — lighter passages emerging from darker ones so that no two belts ever read quite identically. The smooth cordovan centre catches light one way; the saffiano textured edges catch it another. Quietly complex in the best possible sense.But this combination is really about the buckle — and I should say upfront that this is a new design, just completed, and one I'm genuinely proud of. The inspiration came from classic watch bezel design: that precise, engineered language of bevelled edges and recessed screws that the finest watchmakers have used for generations to frame a dial. We've translated that language into two CNC-cut layers of brass — a polished gold lower layer and a satin gold upper — the two sitting proud of one another to create genuine depth and relief. The screw detailing at each corner is not decorative shorthand; it's a considered reference to the watchmaking tradition this buckle draws from. And the open centre frame? That's intentional too — the belt leather shows through, making the Coltrane strap itself part of the composition rather than something the buckle simply sits on top of.The result is a pairing of two connoisseur pieces — a belt and buckle that have both been thought about deeply, and that reward the kind of person who looks closely.
