Cracked Shell Smooth Oval Buckle 40mm

All the way back in 2009 we had a fortuitous meeting with sculptress Marcela Ganly, whose body of work focuses predominantly on the animal world. Our mutual passion for belts inspired us to explore whether her extraordinary sculptural talent — and our design experience — could be adapted to the smaller, more intricate format of a belt buckle. Several months and many trips to the foundry later, we unveiled our first collection of bronze and Silver Plated buckles, each one a limited‑edition piece, signed and numbered. This collaboration laid the foundation for a series of sculptural designs that continue to define our most characterful creations today. This buckle is all about contrast — the meeting of aged, time‑worn metal with the vivid, almost electric beauty of natural Paua shell. Crafted in solid metal with an Aged Silver finish, the frame has a soft, weathered character that feels grounded and tactile. Set at its centre is a handset piece of cracked blue Paua shell, chosen for its extraordinary mosaic of colour and texture. Every fragment catches the light differently, shifting between deep ocean blues, turquoise flashes, and subtle iridescence.What I love about this design is the tension between ruggedness and refinement. The aged silver gives the buckle a sense of history and authenticity, while the Paua shell brings a burst of vibrancy that feels both organic and luxurious. The cracked finish enhances the natural patterning, creating a surface that feels alive — no two pieces are ever quite the same.At 40mm, this buckle has a confident presence and works beautifully with wider belts.
