Some designs become classics because they get something fundamentally right. The Coltrane — first conceived in 2007 and still as compelling as ever — is one of those. The inspiration was the wingtip shoe: that elegant tradition of combining smooth and textured leather within a single object to create something with far more depth and character than either could achieve alone. We simply applied the same logic to a belt, and something clicked. This new Latte colourway might be my favourite iteration yet. The mid brown tone is warm and endlessly wearable — but it's the hand burnishing that gives it its real character, coaxing out lighter and darker passages within the leather so that no two belts will ever read quite identically. The smooth cordovan centre panel catches the light one way; the saffiano textured edges catch it another. The result is a belt that almost seems to shift tone as you move — quietly complex in the best possible sense. The silver bevel edge buckle changes the mood entirely from the gold version, and I mean that as a compliment to both. Where the satin gold brings warmth and softness, this polished silver brings crispness — a cooler, more contemporary edge that sharpens the whole look. And that cross-hatched bevel detail running around the buckle frame? That's not an accident. It finds the saffiano texture of the belt edges and the two simply speak to each other — a small detail that rewards the kind of person who looks closely.Handcrafted in our small Spanish atelier, where the hand burnishing is done by people who have spent years learning exactly how much pressure, and exactly how much time, each skin needs. How to wear it: Dark denim with a blazer, chinos, moleskin — smart casual territory where this belt really earns its keep. The cooler silver tone makes it particularly versatile with greys, blues and olive, as well as the expected browns and tans. A belt that repays the attention of anyone who notices it.
