Some designs become classics because they get something fundamentally right. The Coltrane — first conceived in 2007 and still as compelling as ever — is one of those. The inspiration was the wingtip shoe: that elegant tradition of combining smooth and textured leather within a single object to create something with far more depth and character than either could achieve alone. We simply applied the same logic to a belt, and something clicked. This new Latte colourway might be my favourite iteration yet. The mid brown tone is warm and endlessly wearable — but it's the hand burnishing that gives it its real character, coaxing out lighter and darker passages within the leather so that no two belts will ever read quite identically. The smooth cordovan centre panel catches the light one way; the saffiano textured edges catch it another. The result is a belt that almost seems to shift tone as you move — quietly complex in the best possible sense. The buckle choice here is the satin gold roller, and I think it's exactly right — though I'll admit I wondered for a moment whether it might be too understated. It isn't. The satin finish brings a softness and warmth that mirrors the Latte tones without competing with them, and the etched roller detail — that fine, cross-hatched surface — finds an immediate kinship with the saffiano texture running along the belt edges. Texture acknowledging texture. One of those pairings that feels obvious once you see it, and not at all obvious until you do.Handcrafted in our small Spanish atelier, where the hand burnishing is done by people who have spent years learning exactly how much pressure, and exactly how much time, each skin needs. How to wear it: At 40mm this is a belt that belongs in smart casual territory — dark denim with a blazer, chinos, moleskin, cord as the seasons turn. If you're wearing similar toned shoes, all the better — the two-tone nature of the leather gives you real flexibility across shades of brown and tan. A belt that repays the attention of anyone who notices it.
