Over the last years we have been more and more frequently asked by loyal customers if we might start introducing some belts that provide an alternative to leather. We full understand the sentiment behind this and initially started addressing this through our performance collection. Finally we are pleased to say that we have developed a synthetic leather that allows us to make a more traditional belt that has all of the charm, style and sophistication of one of our leather styles. The material used is a mix of Polyurethane and Polyamide and we use the same material for both the front and back of the belt. The glue used for bonding and paint used for the edges is all water based and free of animal products. The interlining (the bit that stops a belt stretching, sort of the filling in the sandwich so to speak) does contain some traces of recycled leather - but we hope to shortly address this so that we can then call the belt 100% Vegan friendly. Apart from this the way we have made this belt is identical to how we make a normal leather belt - we use the same techniques and pay the same attention to detail, so this is still very much an 'Elliot Rhodes' belt. In any case, the end result is a Mink Brown toned belt that has a subtly textured/mottled surface that makes it suitable to both more formal and more casual occasions. We have paired with our classic sliced edge satin brass buckle for a clean, elegant, timeless look. Hopefully, if you have been looking for a stylish belt that is not made from leather, this will tick the box!
