I have been fascinated by Sharks for many a year and always felt that a belt buckle incorporating a shark tooth could be something truly unique. After several years of research I started to collect fossilised shark teeth, in the process discovering yet more about this species and its ancestors. To work with a tooth such as this one that comes from the Miocene Epoch some 10 Million years ago (the tooth was found in the Bone Valley Formation in Venice, Florida) I find perpetually astounding and quite a privilege. Clearly with each buckle we start from scratch and come up with a design that suits the size, shape and style of the tooth. We start in wax and the graduate to the final piece in sterling silver. This buckle with its ribbons of silver and mix of smooth and textured surfaces is stylish, elegant and unbelievably unique, keeping the focus on the tooth but I feel enhancing its beauty through design. Wearing this buckle is like wearing a piece of art and history all at once...About the Megalodon (Carcharocles Megalodon) : The Megalodon shark is known as the ancestor of the Great White Shark and is certainly the largest shark that ever lived. It grew to around 20m in length, weighed around 50 tons and some of its teeth grew to 7†in length. The argument rages as to true forefather of the Great White shark - whether the Megalodon or the Broad-Toothed Mako.
